एक दिन एलिस एक पेड़ के नीचे लेटी हुई अपनी बहन को कहानी पढ़ते हुए सुन रही थी। अचानक, उसने एक भूरे रंग के खरगोश को भागते हुए देखा। उसकी आंखें गुलाबी थीं और उसने नीला कोट पहना हुआ था। उसने अपनी वास्कट की जेब से एक बड़ी घड़ी निकाली और जल्दी से जाते ही उसने कहा, “अरे प्रिय, मुझे बहुत देर हो जाएगी!”

खटाक! ऐलिस सूखे पत्तों के ढेर पर गिरी। उसने जल्दी से चारों ओर देखा और अचानक सफेद खरगोश को फिर से देखा। यह कहते हुए गायब हो गया, “ओह, मेरे कान और मूंछें! कितनी देर हो रही है!” एलिस उठ खड़ी हुई और उसने करीब पंद्रह इंच ऊंचे एक छोटे से दरवाजे को देखा। उसके लिए गुजरना बहुत छोटा था। उसने एक कांच की मेज देखी जिस पर सुनहरी चाबी थी। उसने ताले में छोटी सुनहरी चाबी से खोलने की कोशिश की और उसे खुशी हुई कि वह फिट हो गई! ऐलिस ने दरवाज़ा खोला और उस सबसे प्यारे बगीचे में देखा जिसे उसने कभी देखा था! वह उन चमकीले फूलों और उन शांत झरनों के बीच कितनी तरस रही थी! लेकिन वह दरवाजे से अपना सिर भी नहीं निकाल पा रही थी।
“Oh! How …………………. exclaimed loudly.
“ओह! मैं कैसा चाहती हूँ, मैं
छोटी हो सकती हूँ!
“वह जोर से बोली।
